mohammed torture expose - ny times

the times dropped one of their marquee stories of the year today; it involves khalid shaikh mohammed and the successful interrogation conducted by a green c.i.a. agent formerly working narcotics detail. among the interesting tidbits:

-poland is the “51st state”

-c.i.a. prison in thailand, prime minister unaware

-waterboarding approx. 100 times in 2 weeks (also torture method known as “belly slap” employed)

and most disturbingly, the times went ahead and identified deuce martinez, the c.i.a. agent in question, despite appeals against it from his lawyers (reasoning: personal safety). i’m on the fence about it… you have a five page article citing a dozen or so unnamed sources but you out one agent who is now private sector. seems kind of bush league. stand by your sources. for the record, mr. martinez declined to be interviewed.

anyways i’m drunk and i gotta wake up at 7 to go to jfk… but read it. it’s more frightening than inspiring, IMHO.

Also: Khalid studied engineering at A&T. Meaning he may have cruised Mildenhall in a tinted Nissan looking for cooze.

Ah yes, I totally forgot that amazing tidbit. If his experience in Greensboro was anything like mine, however, there was much more cruising for cooze that actually hittin’ skins. Nast, I’m curious as to your take on the Times identifying Martinez; does it add anything to the story to put the guy’s name out there?
